Contactor, Softstarter or Inverter. What to choose?

Inverter vs. Softstar.

Softstart

The softstart is a device whose main goal is to provide a smooth startup of the pump motor, minimizing the risk of damage due to hydraulic surges.

Inverter.

On the other hand, the inverter, in addition to a smooth startup, also ensures the safe stopping of the pump and maintains its proper parameters. The inverter maintains the desired working pressure by adjusting the rotational speed so that the pump operates optimally for a given cleaning system, positively affecting its lifespan and reducing power consumption.

Which to choose?

Firstly, we must note that pump units can work correctly without any of the above solutions. Both softstart and inverter aim to limit hydraulic surges in pipelines and improve the lifespan of individual components; however, considering the high cost of pumps, we recommend their use.

For small systems consisting of a few stations, the softstart may be a financially optimal solution. In contrast, the inverter should be taken seriously in systems with 7 or more stations and in pump sets. With a large number of cleaning points, water consumption often changes, and the inverter helps control the pump's rotations to maintain the desired pressure without constantly working at maximum speed.
